The 9U Somerville Scorpions captured the USABL Summer Sizzler Championship on August 2. The team went 3-0 on the day, dominating the competition. The Scorpions outscored their opponents 51-9 on the day, including a 28-8 win over Sportika Baseball in the championship game. 

The Scorpions began the day with a 12-0 win over Sportika. Starting pitcher Anthony Miller pitched a four-inning no-hitter, striking out 9 and walking 3. Jonathan Bal, Michael Ceponis, and Rydan Conti each had two hits on the day. Ceponis and Conti drove in two runs each. Conti had a triple. Overall, the Scorpions knocked 11 hits in the 4-inning game.

In the second game of pool play, the Scorpions defeated Ballistics, 11-1. CJ Rodriguez started on the mound, throwing 3 innings, giving up two hits, one run, two walks, and striking out seven. The Scorpions recorded just three hits, but walked 12 times in the win.

Entering the championship game as the top-seed, the Scorpions bats got hot once again. Rodriguez led the team with three hits while six players registered multiple hits in the game. Houston Lentzsch, Nicolas Recinos, and Conti each doubled, while Rodriguez had a triple. Ceponis continued his big day with four more RBI, while Miller and Conti added three each. In addition to the 15 hits recorded, the Scorpions walked 14 times.

The tournament win ends the spring/summer season for the 9U Scorpions in which they finished with a combined 22-5 overall record.
